As of Ultima Linux 8.3, the traditional LiveCD will be supplemented with a new LiveDVD containing both x86 and AMD64 versions of Ultima Linux. (See this topic on the forums for more information/discussion.) The much larger capacity of DVD media allows for a complete Ultima Linux installation, as opposed to the fairly limited one on the LiveCD, which in turn makes Ultima Linux much easier to install, and also solves a considerable number of problems such as the missing development headers “bug” – actually a deliberate kludge, but not a good one even for normal kludge standards. Because of the considerable improvements over the standard LiveCD, this version is highly recommended for new users.
This particular release is a beta version built from the stable Ultima Linux 8.2b code. It is intended primarily to test the actual LiveDVD code, the so-called “Ultima-scripts,” before the Ultima 8.3 release. You can download it through BitTorrent; please let us know what you think!
Note that the LiveCD version will continue to remain available; the DVD is a supplement, not a replacement.
After writing the ISO image to disc, reboot just like you would to start the LiveCD. At the start-up prompt, use one of the following “cheatcodes” (press [F2] on the DVD to display the complete list):
| linux | Start Ultima Linux x86 Edition. |
|---|---|
| scsi | Same as above, but with SCSI support. |
| linux64 | Start Ultima Linux AMD64 Edition. |
| scsi64 | Same as above, but with SCSI support. |
