Ultima Linux 20070415 has been discontinued. Users are encouraged to upgrade to the latest version, Ultima Linux 8.4. Information and/or content in this article may no longer be accurate or available.

Ultima Linux 8.1beta2 Test-20070415 is an unstable development release of Ultima Linux intended for short-term testing before the Ultima Linux 8.1beta2 release. It is only available in LiveCD format – a complete CD set and source discs are not available. Also, because it is a test release, it is not officially supported by the Ultima Linux developers.

This release introduces a new LiveCD installer which will eventually replace our old Slackware-ish installer. See LiveCD installation instructions for more information.

New features

Please test these features as thoroughly as possible so we can have them working by the final release!

• Linux kernel 2.6.20.3 with UnionFS/SquashFS patches
• Updated KDE 3.5.6 desktop with HAL/D-Bus support
• Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.9
  • AMD64 now uses a native Firefox build, please test plug-ins support
• OpenOffice.org 2.2.0 comprehensive office suite
• MPlayer 1.0pre8 media player with new mplayerplug-in
  • AMD64 now uses a native MPlayer build, please test it out!!
• Cleaner, more minimal default interface (ultima-artwork)

And the biggest one of all...

• Wolvix Control Panel with LiveCD installer (TEST THIS BIGTIME!)

Known issues

• xorgmaker is horribly broken with proprietary drivers (will fix by final release)
• ATI proprietary drivers are currently broken on AMD64
  • I have no idea about ATI/x86 (probably same) or NVIDIA (don't have a card to test). Please let me know.
• Some control panel functionality is probably broken...
• Please, just don't even ask about USB keyboards
• qtparted does not work on the x86 CD. I'm looking into it though...
